Some fun K cheese

I have read, that with mushroom foraging, the rule goes something like this:

When in doubt, throw it out.

Gosh I wish I could do the same with cheese.

symbolic to my hazy perception of this cheese
This morning I went to a Vegan Soup cooking class at the Co Op. I arrived 90 minutes early, not because I was just that excited, but because I was assisting in the kitchen!

My Co Op has such a great deal that when you sign up to assist, prior to the class, you get to attend the class for half the price. Score!

I had so much fun chopping onions, and toasting almonds, and talking about food with the chef. She was so nice and helpful. I had a great time. And the class itself? You curious foodies :) the class taught me how to make 3 different soups (black bean, curried butternut, and french onion) and 1 basic vegetarian stock.

They were all tasty, but the black bean won my heart. It was so simple and creamy (without the cream ha). I may have been partial to it any way since I sauteed the bell peppers that were the garnish. I learned some great tips about beans and... red miso! I never intend to write about that stuff yet for some reason it comes up more often than not. Funny.

With my Co Op class, also comes a discount of $5. So I went shopping at my most favorite place!

I am ALWAYS on the look out for strange, good looking cheeses at the Co Op. I just know they get pricy, so I only buy them when I can get a discount. Today, after inspecting about 20 kinds of cheese, I went with a raw cow milks cheese (but the bleu brie was a close second). And for some strange reason, I did not smell it first. DOH!

I came home and my grocery bag was r a n k. I sniffed around the bag and quickly realized what was causing the smell.

I know that this is a food blog, and I should keep things appetizing, but when I tell you guys that this cheese smelt like butt... it is only out of honesty.

Well, I knew I had to try it, being that I did just spend 6 bucks on it.

So I held my breath. Knifed a piece. And spat it out. It was that bad.

Maybe it was because I smelt it first? Maybe it was because it really was that repulsive. I was a little upset by it all to be honest. I was anticipating a cheesier, tangy punch. But hey, that's what trying new, funky, strange cheese is all about right?

Love my little cheese plate set. I had to share it with you guys :)
I quickly doused the flavor in hummus. Classy. I also wanted to show you something else that I bought recently, but am waiting for the perfect time to drink it.

I'm anticipating it to taste like a Kombucha. Maybe it's like a wanna-be brand? I think I got it at the Co Op when I went last week. Gosh I love that place.

The nutrient info looks pretty... plain

With finals over (party! in the kitchen). And me happy with grades, I'm excited to start spending more time working on my blog.

The rest of my Saturday consists of watching a movie with some friends, eating vegetables, cleaning, and reading. Such a hip teenager !

Whats the worst thing you have ever eaten?

On your mark. Get set. Study!

Hi everyone! TGIRF

If you are a Californian you should know immediately that that R is for rain.

Before the storm, I made a great dinner on canceled Yoga Tuesday. Since I had some time, I managed to successfully throw whisk together some tofu mac n cheese with sauteed kale and smoked paprika.

i feel so awesome when i make this stuff of the top of my head :)
And then last night... I had wonderful French Onion Soup. Probably one of my favorite dinners.

And now... this weekend shall begin with Hungarian Goulash and AP BIO studyin'. Is it weird that I am actually excited to study for finals? I feel like it is weird, but I'm ready to crack open the 8 lb BIO bible and study just the same.

So glad the weather is dreary so I can stay hunkered next to the fire and review.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Today I Got Naked!

Gasp!

At Naked Lounge! nothing risk-ay about it... I haven't even taken a shower today guys. calm down :). I met up with my lovely friend Isabel and we drank tea.

Oolong for me.

Chai for her.

I took no photos because it didn't seem important at the time. I am learning quickly that I really should take pictures all the time!

I totally failed at my tea brewing as well. I forgot to let it steep, and ended up pouring the water from the pot to the mug back to the pot. How to look cool at a coffee shop 101 with Grace!

I don't even know why I ordered tea since I have been drinking out of this bad boy
chai spice with some almond milk
and have been scurrying to the bathroom just about every hour. Tea can do that to ya, especially with a mug of that caliber.

Spent the rest of the afternoon working on AP Bio. And then I made ate this for dinner

Herb Mixed Greens, steamed b sprouts, carrots, chopped celery, dried cranberries, and balsamic. + toasted bread and yogurt.

I also decided to be a true american and sit in front of the tele to watch the Golden Globes, sadly our TV signal is being a little crazzzy. I ended up just watching the news. Exciting.

Downton Abbey on the menu tonight!

Do you feel silly ordering tea at coffee shops? I do.

Improvising

I never cook with Asian flavors. Seriously, my mom and I bought red miso paste back in March and have used 1 tsp. I'm still hoping to come across a recipe that calls for 1 cup of this stuff. If only. If only.

Tonights' game plan was to make Miso-Curry Delicata Squash from 101 Cookbooks . Sadly I had 1) no white miso and 2) no red Thai curry paste. I did, however, have a whole lotta red miso paste... and I got crafty and winged it. (wung it?)

I took delicata and firm tofu and mixed it with olive oil, and a spoonful of both RED miso curry and tahini. Then I stuck it in the oven at 400 for 20 minutes. I massaged the kale in tahini and olive oil and lemon juice. Then I toasted some pepitas and mixed e v e r y thing together.

I was so afraid it was going to taste awful. And the delicata, the kale, and (heaven forbid) the red miso would all have gone to waste! Gosh I wish that stuff would just disappear

But it was actually quite good. I had this ^ and then about another half of that serving. Can't wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow!

Know any recipes that call for a tub of red miso?
